Comments: This is the largest dome in the world. The way it was built was a marvel of brilliant engineering. Prof. Thomas B. Settle will tell you more. It is worth to listen.

Comments: If you really want to appreciate the genius that was Fillipo Brunelleschi you should read the book Brunellschi's Dome by Ross King. This the largest masonry dome ever built at 143 ft. diameter 350 ft high to the top of the lantern and an estimated weight of 37000 tons. This the only cupola of any size built without support scaffolding.Until this day architects d'ont know how it was constructed.

Comments: If you look further into his genius, you will see how he turned even the smallest ideas into giant stepping stones in mathmatics, engineering and architecture.
To marvel at Brunelleschi, is to marvel at his ability to extrapolate, from the ground up, with design and artistic perspective. This is obviously proven with (Drum, Santa MAria del Fiore).

Comments: I was there in 2001, and it was wonderful. The basement was full of interesting artifacts that proved that this site had been used for hundreds of years as a place of worship. Florence rocks.
