Comments: In response to Molly above.I feel you would more fully understand this painting,if you read the Bible account of Noah,and the flood.
I feel this piece shows the enormity of GOD'S anger.The violent swaying of the trees,and swirling water everywhere,reveals a disastrous flood.Families are stranded,and people are clinging to every available, temporary, supportive structure.One can sense,it is a lost cause.A very graphic,and solemn picture.
