Comments: Hi, How much would a sculpture of Lorenzo de Medici, height 54cm, signed "F. Barbedienne, fondeur" be worth?

Comments: Contemplative life- the thinker/ the pensive man- left hand indicates that silencef of meditation and his heavy helmet that throws his face into shadow symbolises the burden of his thought "brooding behind his eternal mask upon the mysteries of life" Henery James. His left arm rests on a money-box decorated with the head of a bat- a creatuer of the underworld- perhaps the box contains oboli- the oblulus Greek coin was placed under the tougue of the dead to pay Charon the ferry man of the underworld- could also symbolise thrift. Strange position of his right arm to represent sleep and death. His head is turned to the right to look directly at the Madonna at the end of the Chapel.

Comments: Lorenzo de' Medici was probably one of the greatest mentors Michelangelo had when he was beginning his career as an artist. The expression on Lorenzo's face in the above sculpture is absolutely gorgeous. Michelangelo made it come alive!
